Tall and Creamy Cheesecake... and my new mixer!
This week's Tuesdays with Dorie recipe was chosen by Anne of AnneStrawberry. She selected this gorgeous and wonderful Tall and Creamy Cheesecake. You'll find the recipe on her blog.
So guess what Santa brought me!! A KitchenAid mixer! I love it!!! Can you tell by all of the exclamation points?!?!? I used it for the first time to make the cheesecake. Look how fabulous it looks, working so hard.
I'm officially retiring my old hand mixer. I didn't really know what to do with myself not having to do all the work to mix up this cheesecake recipe (which required a whole lot of mixing, by the way). At first I just stared in amazement at the contents of the bowl being mixed. And then I decided I better take advantage of my extra free time. Wanna know what you can get done while your KitchenAid mixer is doing all the work for you? Well, I found out...
1. empty the dishwasher
2. pull out all of the subsequent ingredients you need
3. eat a cookie
4. pull out the roasting pan from the deep dark pits of your cupboards
5. stare a little more in amazement at your beautiful mixer
6. wash the dishes you've already used
7. chase your child around the room
8. eat another cookie
It's quite a wonderful thing, isn't it?
Well, I know it's Wednesday and I'm a day late. But I decided to make the cheesecake for a New Year's Eve celebration. It is so creamy and delicious and just wonderful.
Despite my tin foil not really working well and a little water leakage onto my crust... and my top being a tad bit more browned than I'd like... it's wonderful. Quite close to perfect if it weren't for those two things. My husband's absolute favorite thing is plain cheesecake, so he forbid me to put fruit or chocolate or anything else into this. I'm kind of glad I didn't either, it's oh so heavenly.
And by the way, the Tuesdays with Dorie group is opening up to new members until New Year's Day. So if you've been contemplating joining, I urge you to do it. It's very fun and you'll make lots of new friends as well as make everyone swoon over your fancy treats. Let me know if you're interested in joining, I can give you all the info. Or, just go to the TWD site and check it out for yourself.
Happy New Year everyone!

cheesecake looks wonderful as always. the mixer looks beautiful on your counter.
Congrats on the new mixer!! I love mine, but I love the color of yours. Mixer envy...go figure! The cheesecake looks divine! Happy New Year!
Congrats on the new mixer! I got a shiny new red one for my b'day in November and I am loving it. I use it at least once or twice per week. It is so nice to be able to mix while you multi-task, isn't it? I think your cheesecake looks perfect. I see NO soggy crust. Happy New Year!
Yay for new mixers! My KA is the same color. Your cheesecake looks perfect. You really do a nice job taking photos.
Wanted to stop in and say hi! I LOVE the French Toast below!
Congratulations on the mixer! I absolutely love starting mine up and then going off to do something else. Just wait until you whip egg whites or heavy cream...you'll be in heaven!
It turned out perfect! I love your new mixer- what a beauty!
I have the same mixer in the same color...an anniversary gift this year. I love it. Seriously, I have romantic feelings for the mixer and want to whisk it away to a desert island and take it for a long walk on mixer beach :). Happy Baking..you will love it..just wait till you make bread!
Congrats on your new mixer! It looks sharp.
This recipe was a perfect one to break in the KA. Your cheesecake looks great!
Yummy Cheesecake! And Lucky you for getting a Kitchen Aid Mixer! I want one sooo badly! Enjoy!
Happy NEw Year!
I'm with you on the mixer front. The first time I whipped cream, I just stood there in amazement! I had to pinch myself when I realized I could walk away from my mixer while it works. When we made the kugelhopf it mixed for 10 minutes - time to get lots of things done!
I agree about the plain cheesecake. I stuck in a bit of lemon juice (like New York style) and the flavor is not detectable. Yummy. We had the leaky crust too, so we've just enjoyed ours all to ourselves!
I love how tall and creamy yours looks. Great job!
Nancy
Ha ha ha - I love your list of things to do while the mixer is working for you. Especially the part about eating cookies!
Happy New Year!
Beautiful cheesecake and beautiful mixer! You must have been very good this year!!
That looks perfect and I love your new Christmas present! I agree about all the things it's good for (especially when you are trying to cook while holding a baby!)
Oh, I am so excited for you about your new KitchenAid!!!! You are going to LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! If I could only keep one small kitchen appliance (shudder) this would be the one! It is especially wonderful when you have little ones in the house and need all of the free hands you could get! And I am SO glad that you loved the cheesecake -- it looks incredible! We adored it here as well. I think it is one recipe that I will make a lot. Happy New Year, Melissa! I enjoyed your blog so much in 2008, and look forward to hearing about more of your culinary adventures in '09!
The top of my cheesecake came out a little more golden than the one pictured in the cookbook as well.
I need to get a stand mixer. Using the handmixer is getting old really fast thanks to all these TWD challenges.
Absolutely beautiful cheesecake. Glad you and your sweet tooth's liked it too. I love my KA too. Its like yours, however hang on to that hand mixer for the smaller quantity jobs. Our bowls are quite large so sometimes little is good. Enjoy the power.... he he
Happy 2009
