TWD: Chocolate Oatmeal Almost-Candy Bars

This week's Tuesdays with Dorie pick was made by Lillian of Confectiona’s Realm. She picked the Chocolate Oatmeal Almost-Candy Bars - the bar cookies with a layer of oatmeal and chopped peanuts, topped with a layer of chocolate, and finished off with another oatmeal and peanut layer. The recipe called for raisins too, but I'm NOT a fan of raisins in my desserts.

These are really quite tasty! I was supposed to be on a diet and yet I think I had four of these.... hhmmm... funny how that happens. I made a half batch and baked it in my 8-inch square pan. They cooked for about 28 minutes and I'm pretty sure I overbaked them just a little. My edges were pretty hard... but I had a tough time telling when it was done, so I guess it's better to be TOO done than UNDERdone, right? I'd definitely make these again - they're something different and really good!

For the recipe, check out Lillian's blog!

I left my raisins out, made half a recipe, and ate way too many of these, too. Funny how all of those things can happen! I agree with you, these were really good (and worth a little bit of diet cheating).

I agree that these were worth cheating a little on your diet. But hey, there is oatmeal in them so that makes it a little better!

No raisins here either.

They were so much better that way.

These have oats and peanuts so they are healthy right? :) Glad you liked them!

A half batch of these was a good idea. Too dangerous too have too many lying around. They look great.

Looks like a lot of us had the same experience--I left the raisins out, made half a batch and ate too many too! I think I might try underbaking next time for more chew.

They look great (even without the raisins)! These are definitely diet busters, but I think they're worth it.

I like raisins and left them in mine. Thought it added just the right amount of chewiness to the chocolate layer. Yours look great.

Well ya... but four of only bite size, I guess makes it safe! LOL ...I was safe also... made only half the recipe!

Anywho, they were like you say, quite tasty! ...and yours are particularly lovely!

I think I will try these with my step-daughter this weekend. She loves to bake. They look wonderful. Thanks!

Your bars look great, not overdone at all. I also have found myself going back for more of these than I planned to eat, so yummy.

Diets Schmiets! These were dangerously good and bad! I used pecans and caramel, making them even "worse". I felt like I was still a good girl not eating too many, but I let my family eat way too many to get rid of them quickly. ;)

I am slow getting through all the postings but it makes it fun to see what others says, a week after and even after I baked the next sweet.

Yours look delicious but of course, they were. This is a chocolate lover's dream.
